Getting comfortable with who I am

This statement is one that is usually packaged as a justification for a certain lifestyle. Maybe I am using it for the same purpose. I know that God calls you to step out of your comfort zone. He often times exposes strengths and talents in your life that you didn’t know you had. But… you are still who He has created you to be. There are times in life that you “reinvent” yourself and embrace certain elements that make you who you are. For example: When we moved to Weston I no longer had to be reminded of past actions that the people at my previous job knew me for. Even though God had changed my life and they knew that it was still a tainted perception based on previous failures of character and judgment.

I am still who God created me to be for a reason. I am getting more comfortable with that. I am getting more comfortable with the fact that my personality, style, gift mix, etc. are just not going to be what everybody is looking for. I used to try and dance around it and feel like I need to justify every action or defend why I act this way or why I handle situations that way. There are certainly a lot of things that I am not. There is a substantial list of areas that I fall short. But… everyday I figure out more and more why I am who I am and exactly what that means and I make less excuses for it. I have been stuck in the thought that I need to strengthen the weak spots and fill in the voids. I encourage you to join me in focusing on your strengths. Figure out those areas that God has given you a passion for or maybe you excel in a specific area and capitalize on those things.
